From Devanagari to the Bengali script

Hindi is written in Devanagari and Bengali in the Bengali script, so the exported file uses a different writing system from the audio that produced it. The subtitle formats handle that — SRT and VTT are plain text and carry any script — but the font in whatever plays the file has to cover it.

This is the most common reason a Bengali subtitle track looks correct in an editor and shows boxes or blanks on a device. Test on the target platform before you publish a batch.

How Hindi audio becomes Bengali subtitles

Audio in Hindi (हिन्दी) is transcribed first, then translated into Bengali (বাংলা). Because the translation runs on the transcript rather than on the audio, the Bengali subtitle file keeps the timings of the original Hindi speech — each line appears at the moment it was actually said.

Why translate Hindi video into Bengali

Hindi is spoken principally in northern India, and widely as a second language across the subcontinent; Bengali in Bangladesh and West Bengal. A Bengali subtitle track is what lets one recording reach both audiences without re-recording, re-editing or dubbing it.

Because subtitles are a separate file rather than part of the picture, you can attach several language tracks to the same video and let viewers pick.

About the Hindi audio

Everyday spoken Hindi borrows heavily from English and from Urdu, often inside a single sentence, and recognition has to follow those switches rather than force everything into one vocabulary. Transcription keeps the Devanagari script; if you want the Roman-script form people write informally, translate to English instead of transcribing.

About the Bengali subtitles

Bangladeshi and Indian Bengali differ in pronunciation and in some everyday vocabulary, and the written form is common to both, so a transcript reads naturally either way. Bengali's conjunct consonants make it visually dense — two-line subtitle blocks are worth keeping short.

What to check before publishing

• Names and places, which translation handles less reliably than ordinary prose.
• Idiom — a phrase that is natural in Hindi may need loosening to read well in Bengali.
• That the Bengali script renders in your player, not just in the editor you exported from.
• Timing on fast exchanges, where two speakers overlap.
